article is an introuductory study on the three activities: cruising, port, and trade were historical realities in Southeast Kalimantan. The result shows a general description that those aspects were the integrated ones. Based on the historical evidences, those aspects were important foundation for wider life of the in habitants settling in Southeast Kalimantan.

Abstract: This article is aimed at exploring smuggling phenomenon and black market in South Kalimantan in the 19th century. The phenomenon can be described because its source or historical data is available. The source or data is in the form of text-books and manuscripts. Based on historical methods, the smugging and black market phenomenon in South kalimantan in 19th century addition to economical factor, geographical condition of South Kalimantan, especially in waters areas, was also said as the determining factor on the phenomenon.

Pengantar
Dalam sejarahnya, Banjarmasin sering disebut sebagai salah satu pusat perdagangan internasional, namun seiring dan hampir sama seringnya juga disebut sebagai daerah pusat terjadinya kasus perompakan, di samping penyelundupan dan perdagangan gelap. Banjarmasin yang dimaksud adalah sebuah kesultanan yang tumbuh sejak pertengahan Abad XVI hingga Abad XIX. Wilayah pengaruh kekuasaannya cukup luas, termasuk daerah kesultanan Kotawaringin di sebelah Barat dan daerah kesultanan Kutai di sebelah Timur. Pada kesempatan ini, dalam alasan teknis semata, wilayah seluas itu cukup disebut dengan wilayah Kalimantan Selatan. Pada kesempatan ini pula maka fokus perhatian penulisan diarahkan ke persoalan perompakan yang berlangsung di wilayah Kalimantan Selatan pada Abad XIX. (lebih…)
